Flaca, a young Latin woman, follows her dream of becoming “Miss Venezuela”. Although she will never reach the actual pageant, her journey leads to the discovery of an alternative beauty. She achieves a graceful, personal awakening and discovers a path which is not enclosed by the constructs of a beauty pageant.
…sol y lluvia is a film about beauty. As a study in form, it places the audience into a state of tranquil meditation. The film highlights colors, sounds and shapes, as opposed to narrative formula or performance. It constructs the story and characters by applying rich, colorful images and subtle, trance like tones.
The film was shot entirely in Venezuela. A preview of …sol y lluvia was screened at the 1999 Independent Feature Film Market at the Angelika Film Center. The film was also screened at the 1999 Long Island Film Festival where it won Best Foreign Language Feature.
